Malta und GozoThe experience MALTA

"We are still not able to believe it" - was our last sentence when we left Munich. We flew two hours to the "International Airport of Malta". There a man was waiting for us, he called us "the Hofer-group", and gave a welcome-package to everyone (his pronounciation of our names was very funny!). Some mini-busses picked us up and took us to the host families.
It was a very strange feeling to drive through the streets of Malta - palm trees, aerials and houses with a flat roof everywhere!
After we had got to know our host families, we met at "San Gwann Church", our very important meeting point and walked to every bus stop we had to know.

Diary

On Sunday, our first day, we went to Gozo, the sister island of Malta, by ferry.
There we had a look at the capital city Victoria, some beaches and in the late afternoon we were allowed to swim or lie in the sun at Ramla bay! In the evening we went out in Paceville - the party district of Malta.

On Monday we had our first school day. Afterwards we walked to St.Julians, where we had the chance to go shopping. Then we visited the Aqua-Centre for staying at the beach.
In the evening a beach party at the Aqua Centre took place, where we met a school group from Vienna.

On Tuesday we had to go to school first. In the afternoon we went to Golden Bay, where we relaxed for the rest of the day. In the evening we had free-time, some people joined the nightlife of Paceville again.

On Wednesday we had to go to school again. Then we went to Craft's Village, where we saw the work of some glassblowers. After that we had free-time to look at the pottery, at the jewellery and all the shops. In the evening we had a DVD-night at the Aqua Centre, where we watched "Terminal".

On Thursday we had our last school day - we played a quiz. After that we walked to Sliema, the shopping area, but we also had the chance to go to Aqua Centre for swimming or climbing. In the evening we created a Farewell-party in Paceville. We celebrated until late night.

On Friday we met at 10 a.m. (thank God) and went to Valletta. There we heard a lot about the history of Malta and we even visited a museum. In the evening we packed our suitcases and we went to bed earlier.

On Saturday we got up at 3.30 a.m. and waited for the minibus, which took us to the airport. The flight to Munich was good and it was very strange (and comfortable) to speak German again.

Last but not least:
  • Chris sneezed 166 times in 3 days!!
  • We walked about 45 km the whole week
  • A jellyfish bit Valentina
  • Mr. Hofer's name was "Mr. George" and Mrs. Schranzhofer's name was "class mum" during the week
  • Be careful in Malta - the car drivers are crazy!!
